Introduction

I am like you with a need to take care of myself and a desire to live well. Despite a few marginal details we are 99% the same. Therefore we can assume if one human has an experience another is capable of the same experience. If this is true then we can also assume when practicing the same movements consistently similar results will occur.
Living well requires a solid mind and mobility. The body is the vehicle we must take care of, and since we were not born with an instruction manual we must create one following the rules nature provides, balanced with our needs and desires.  This app was created with everyone in mind, using something that is available to us, a wall. The wall is the prefect tool for us to shape ourselves.  It's consistency is remarkable, so much so most populations around the world regulate their construction of them. Ancient history is recorded on them. Clearly we have been encountering walls and utilizing them since the dawn of man.
The wall shows us a clear picture of where we are in space relative to our past selves, when we inventory ourselves over time. We all wake up each new day with a slightly different version of ourselves and it’s important to recognize the changes on a daily basis.  Early detection of any irregularities is the key to prevention of problems down the road. This app offers both a way to detect irregularities and correct them before problems start to occur and disrupt our lives.
Against The Wall is first and foremost a guide to help us understand both the internal and external forces at work though the cultivation of awareness and self discovery. The positions contained here are the minimum range of movement and strength required for a baseline for taking care of ourselves.
The method here is solid. Practice the positions. Each position is both a practice and a assessment. Some positions are easy, some hard, some restore the body, some strengthen the body, some open the body, some invert the body. All positions build awareness of the body. The body is happiest when all parts work in their full range of motion and are in balance. When balance is achieved the body’s natural heal system will operate at its peak.
You may find as I did how many troublesome issues can be reduced or cured just by good posture. I used to believe my sinus head aches were just part of the changing seasons, and twice a year I would miss work due a massive three day long pounding head ache. However after learning how to reduce tension in my shoulders, head and neck, the problem quickly dissipated without medication. Or maybe you’ll discover how a lunge against the wall can improve your walking and running abilities by strengthening the core muscle used for those activities. The possibilities are endless while we learn ourselves, inside and out.
Remember, if we don’t use our bodies we will lose our bodies. Let this book serve you. Everyday, practice the positions individually or in sequence. There is no wrong time, place or order. To help you get started I’ve included a few of my favorite sequences. Explore this app, try it and use it. The only tool you need is a wall and will.
