حركات قطع الشطرنج:
- يتحرك البيدق إلى خلية شبكية واحدة للأمام أو خليتين في أول حركة لهذا الشكل. يدق قطريا إلى حقل واحد للأمام.
- يستطيع الملك أن يسير مربعًا واحدًا رأسيًا أو أفقيًا أو مائلًا.
- الملكة حرة في التحرك في كل الاتجاهات.
- ينتقل الرخ إلى أي مسافة رأسيًا أو أفقيًا.
- ينتقل الفارس إلى الحقل حقلين على طول عمودي وآخر أفقي أو حقل واحد رأسياً واثنان أفقياً.
- يتحرك الأسقف قطريًا إلى أي مسافة.
مواقف اللعبة المهمة:
- فحص - الموقف في الشطرنج عندما يتعرض الملك لهجوم فوري من قطع الخصم.
- كش ملك- هو هجوم على الملك لا تستطيع أنت أو خصمك الهروب منه.
- الجمود (التعادل) - الوضع الذي لا يستطيع فيه أحد اللاعبين التحرك ، لكن ملكهم لا يتعرض للهجوم.
الهدف من اللعبة هو كش ملك للملك الآخر.
حركتان خاصتان في الشطرنج:
- التبييت هو حركة مزدوجة يؤديها الملك والرخ الذي لم يتحرك أبدًا.
- En-passant هي حركة يمكن فيها للبيدق أن يأخذ بيدق الخصم إذا قفز فوق حقل تحت ضربة البيدق.
