Drinking plenty of water can be a useful tool in a dieter's arsenal when weight loss is a goal. It helps boost your metabolism, suppresses your appetite and helps you lose weight. The weight of water refers to the extra water that is stored all over your body - in the fingers, face, legs and even toes; however, water weight is temporary and should not be confused with long-term chronic water retention (which may be due to illness or medication and should be treated by a physician). You may notice the difference on the scale after a salty meal, a few days after the excess, if you are dehydrated or just before a menstrual cycle.
