Azahar is a set of 5 applications designed for communication, leisure and planning of people with autism. These applications could improve the quality of life and autonomy of people with autism and/or intellectual disability.
Azahar is the result of a partnership between the Orange Foundation and the Adapta Foundation.
Azahar contains the following applications:
- HELLO: For communicating using pictograms and communication panels.
- BUILDING SENTENCES: For making sentences using 2, 3 or 4 pictograms.
- MUSIC: Pictogram-based music player, fully customisable to suit individual user preferences.
- VIDEOS: For playing videos individually or grouped into folders.
- PHOTOS: For viewing photographs individually or organised into albums.
- TIMERS: Access to graphic timers (bar, sand, circular) to help managing waiting periods and timetables.
- VIDEO RECORDER: Allows the user to record videos and watch them back from a special folder.
- CAMERA: Helps the user to take photographs and view them from a special folder.
The applications contain pictograms, images and sound which can be adapted to each user. New icons, photos of the person and his/her family voices, etc. can also be used, in order to ensure the maximum level of personalization for each application.
In this way, Azahar the applications can be adjusted to the users preferences and needs, according to the level of complexity he/she can handle.
Azahar it is based on the TEACCH programme philosophy for offering a clear visual structure. One of the applications, the HELLO communicator, takes its inspiration from the PECS system.
