The Romans founded the town of Callentum that with the arrival of the Arabs, renamed Castalla. The population reached its peak in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, becoming the residence of King Philip V in the early eighteenth century. On a visit to Cazalla it is important not to miss the Church of Our Lady of Consolation, the Carthusian monastery, convent of Madre de Dios and San Francisco and the Monastery of Santa Clara, among other monuments.
