Takumi’s vision is 一期一会, which reflects the Japanese philosophy of “One-encounter One-opportunity”.
This suggests every individual should treasure every encounter in a meaningful and personal way, to build relationships beyond commercial tourism.
Takumi is a mobile based app that studies and empowers specifically Singaporean and Asian travellers to experience the non-portrayed faces of Japan by connecting them directly with every-day locals in three different forms: Locals, local workshops and local restaurants.
The idea of introducing the foreign travellers to the local’s actual daily routines and experiences, allows the travellers to be a part of the neighbourhood or community, even if it’s for just a few hours. Takumi believes that a real understanding of a destination can only be achieved if it does not require the locals to change any of their identities during any interactions.
