La Comisión Nacional de los Libros de Texto Gratuitos (CONALITEG) es un organismo público descentralizado sectorizado a la Secretaria de Educación Pública (SEP) de México cuyo objetivo es proporcionar libros de manera gratuita a los alumnos de educación básica inscritos en el sistema educativo nacional.
Se creó el 12 de febrero de 1959, por decreto del entonces presidente de México Adolfo López Mateos, y era secretario de Educación Pública Jaime Torres Bodet.​ Entregó sus primeros ejemplares en 1960, con el texto que correspondía a los cursos de primero a quinto grado de primaria; el de sexto grado se entregó un año después. Su primer presidente fue el Martín Luis Guzmán, y su secretario general, Miguel Ángel Menéndez Reyes. A partir de la reforma administrativa del presidente José López Portillo, en 1980, la Comisión se transformó en un organismo público descentralizado, y entonces su dirigente pasó a ser director, en lugar de presidente.
En 1962, para la portada de los libros se empleó la obra de Jorge González CamarenaLa Patria, que se convertiría en un icono de los libros educativos. En 1966, publicó su primer tiraje en braile. Para 1982, creó su serie de monografías de los estados de la República.
A la fecha de este artículo, edita y publica los libros de texto para preescolar, primaria, secundaria, telesecundaria, indígena (42 lenguas), Braille y Macrótipo con una impresión propia aproximada de 25 millones de ejemplares.Dado que requiere cubrir una oferta de más de 200 millones, el resto es obtenido bajo licitación a empresas privadas.
The National Commission of Free Textbooks (CONALITEG) is a decentralized public sector sectorized to the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) of Mexico whose objective is to provide free books to students of basic education enrolled in the national education system.
It was created on February 12, 1959, by decree of the then president of Mexico Adolfo López Mateos, and was Secretary of Public Education Jaime Torres Bodet.He gave his first copies in 1960, with the text that corresponded to the first to fifth courses primary grade; the sixth grade was delivered a year later.
