Caption allows editing the "caption" property of JPEG photos to document the subject of an image. This might be particularly useful when taking a large number of photos in an unfamiliar location, such as a long backpacking trip or travel abroad. How many of us have gone back to vacation photos a year later and wondered, "What is that and why did I take a picture of it?"
Also, one can insert a short audio recording inside the photo, to quickly make a voice note and then later go back and edit the caption file property. When I am hiking and do not want to pause to enter text about a photo, or perhaps bright sunlight washes out the screen, this is my preferred method of use.
The caption property is a standard part of JPEG files and can be recognized by many photo organizing programs.
Other apps edit a photo to permanently write text onto the image, obliterating the image data underneath the letters, and cannot be easily edited. The app Caption edits a file property that can readily be changed, and also hidden from display, and include arbitrarily long text that would not display well on a photo banner.
The user can invoke Caption in several ways (use cases):
1) In your favorite camera app, click the "Share" icon after taking a picture, and select Caption.
2) Start Caption, which automatically navigates to the most recently taken photo in your gallery.
3) We have more options in development that would allow Caption to monitor when a new photo is taken, and then launch our app or begin recording an audio annotation in the background while still in your camera app. Contact us if you have suggestions for other ways to make the app easy to use.
This app is free to try out, with no ads ever. All features are enabled, with the sole limitation that captions are limited to ten characters in length. An in-app purchase removes this one restriction.
Features include:
Write and edit caption property of JPEG photos
Record/insert/delete audio annotation for JPEG photos.
No ads
Low permissions
Use your normal gallery app to select photos.
Material design interface with navigation bar.
Horizontal swipe to navigate between images, with zoom and pan to view.
If you are going on an adventure, Caption is a great way to document the subject of photos so you can go back years later and be reminded of the details. Your commentary on slide-shows will accurate, and informative, and your audience will appreciate the attention to detail.
