"The crossword (or crossword puzzles or crosswords) are one of the most popular puzzle games in the world.
The game is played on a square or rectangular grid of black and white squares. The black squares - arranged in a regular geometry - represent breaks between words that go to fill in the white boxes, one letter in each box.
The words are written in white boxes, both horizontally (from left to right) and vertically (top to bottom), starting from the numbered boxes that are located on the edges and corners created by the black squares. The words inserted, which are suggested by specific definitions, must comply with the crossovers which are mutually to create words in the diagram between horizontal and vertical words.
A crossword puzzle is solved when all the white boxes were filled and all the words correspond to the definitions given.
In Italy, the first of which you have no knowledge crossword puzzle was created by Giuseppe Airoldi and published in "The Century Illustrated Sunday 'in 1890."
