The Flora Box App supports you in learning plants. Especially when learning the botanical names and recognizing species. You can choose your plants from a large database.
The operating principle is a digital flashcard box according to the Leitner system. Each card consists of a front side with pictures of the different plant parts and a back side with the plant name and additional information. The plant cards you want to learn are placed in level one of your digital box. As you progress, the cards will move up from level 1 to level 5 in your box.
Learn the plants the way you want to learn them:
◽ You choose the plants you want to learn
◽ Decide for yourself which pictures you want to see first, by season and plant parts
◽ You can deactivate individual levels of the box, then the cards of those levels will not be queried
◽ Label your cards with your own solutions and notes
◽ Choose the default name of your plants: Botanical, German or English names
◽ Decide for yourself whether your answer is right or wrong
◽ Reorder your cards in the box in other levels
◽ Remove your cards from the box or add them again
◽ Create your own learning lists
The app contains a test database (free version) with 190 plants. Many of the invasive neophytes on the Swiss Watch List and the Blacklist are included. It also contains a selection of plants that are particularly valuable in terms of biodiversity.
You can upgrade the app to the full database with a one-time in-app purchase. After that all future additions to the database are free of charge. Currently the database contains 1324 plant species. On https://florabox.ch/en_plants.html you can find all listed species.
To support the different interest groups, the app offers several pre-compiled plant lists. For example, if you want to learn about the invasive neophytes that occur in Switzerland, you can find the list Invasive Neophytes CH for the keyword specific topics. So, you do not have to search for these plants in the database to put them in your box. Further topics are gardeners in education, further education, botany (field botany), interested people and hobby. For these topics, a wide selection of lists is available.

The app offers many beautiful pictures of all the different plants. Even if you only use the app for personal enjoyment, it is nice to look at all the different plant pictures or just look up a plant with it.
