Torbiere del Sebino

La “Riserva Naturale Regionale Orientata delle Torbiere del Sebino” tutela un’area umida
di Importanza Internazionale ai sensi dalla Convezione di Ramsar.
Le zone umide sono infatti tra gli ambienti più produttivi al mondo, conservano la diversità
biologica e forniscono l'acqua e la produttività primaria da cui innumerevoli specie di
piante e animali dipendono per la loro sopravvivenza. Esse sostengono numerose
popolazioni di specie di uccelli, mammiferi, rettili, anfibi, pesci e invertebrati. Per questo
motivo la riserva è stata definita Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) e
riconosciuta dalla normativa Europea “Natura 2000” come sito ZPS (Zona di Protezione
Speciale) ai sensi della Direttiva Uccelli concernente la conservazione degli uccelli
selvatici e come ZSC (Zona Speciale di Conservazione) ai sensi della Direttiva Habitat
relativa alla conservazione degli habitat naturali e semi naturali e della flora e della fauna
selvatiche.
Le paludi un tempo erano considerate solo come terre improduttive e pericolose a causa
della zanzara anofele, veicolo della malaria. Oggi le paludi non sono più considerate come
luoghi malsani ma come preziosi scrigni di biodiversità, indispensabili per la
sopravvivenza di migliaia di uccelli migratori, che hanno la necessità di trovare luoghi in
cui rifugiarsi e ricchi di cibo per recuperare energie durante i loro lunghi viaggi.
La Riserva delle Torbiere d’Iseo, trovandosi nel centro della Pianura Padana,
intensamente antropizzata e coltivata, riveste un’importanza ecologica ancora maggiore.
Essa, per la sua estensione e la sua unicità, costituisce una vera e propria “oasi” per molti
uccelli sia durante la migrazione autunnale e primaverile, sia durante il periodo estivo della
nidificazione, sia in inverno quando molte specie provenienti dal nord Europa necessitano
di acque libere dai ghiacci ove trovare cibo.
Gli uccelli sono la componente più vistosa degli esseri viventi che popolano le Torbiere,
ma non bisogna dimenticare la gran quantità di specie di piante palustri, di pesci, anfibi e,
non meno importante, di insetti. In particolare la Riserva è un sito elettivo per le libellule
ed è possibile osservare qui fino a 30 diverse specie di questi affascinanti predatori alati.
Le Torbiere d’Iseo costituiscono un ecosistema in cui ogni elemento ha una grande
importanza ecologica e si relaziona agli altri, anche quello che ai nostri occhi è meno
significativo. Inoltre il valore di questa zona è amplificato dal contesto morfologico in cui
è inserita, l’ anfiteatro morenico di Franciacorta e del Sebino e dalla sua storia, per le
emergenze culturali ed artistiche circostanti, tra cui in particolare il Monastero di S.
Pietro in Lamosa. Questo sito cluniacense, il cui nucleo centrale risale all’anno 1000,
merita senz’altro una visita accurata (possibilmente guidata) in modo da poterne apprezzare
l’interessante architettura e gli affreschi, oltre che per conoscerne la storia.

The "Oriented Regional Nature Reserve of the Torbiere del Sebino" protects a wetland
of International Importance pursuant to the Ramsar Convention.
Wetlands are in fact among the most productive environments in the world, preserving diversity
biological and provide water and primary productivity from which countless species of
plants and animals depend for their survival. They claim numerous
populations of species of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates. For this
reason the reserve has been defined as an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) e
recognized by the European regulation "Natura 2000" as a SPA site (Protection Area)
Special) pursuant to the Birds Directive concerning the conservation of birds
wild and as SAC (Special Conservation Area) pursuant to the Habitat Directive
on the conservation of natural and semi-natural habitats and of flora and fauna
wild.
The marshes were once considered only as unproductive and dangerous lands due
of the Anopheles mosquito, a vehicle for malaria. Today the marshes are no longer considered as
unhealthy places but as precious treasures of biodiversity, indispensable for the
survival of thousands of migratory birds, which need to find places in
to take refuge and rich food to recover energy during their long journeys.
The Reserve of the Peat bogs of Iseo, being in the center of the Po Valley,
intensely man-made and cultivated, it has an even greater ecological importance.
Due to its size and uniqueness, it constitutes a real "oasis" for many
birds both during the autumn and spring migration, and during the summer period of the
nesting, both in winter when many species coming from northern Europe need
of water free from ice where to find food.
Birds are the most visible component of the living beings that inhabit the peat bogs,
but we must not forget the great quantity of species of marsh plants, of fish, amphibians and,
not least, of insects. In particular, the Reserve is an elective site for dragonflies
and it is possible to observe here up to 30 different species of these fascinating winged predators.
The Peat bogs of Iseo constitute an ecosystem in which each element has a large one
ecological importance and relates to others, even what is less in our eyes
significant. Moreover the value of this zone is amplified by the morphological context in which
it is inserted, the morainic amphitheater of Franciacorta and of the Sebino and from its history, for the
surrounding cultural and artistic emergencies, including in particular the Monastery of S.
Pietro in Lamosa. This Cluniac site, whose central core dates back to the year 1000,
it certainly deserves a careful visit (possibly guided) so that you can appreciate it
the interesting architecture and the frescoes, as well as to know its history.
