Pengertian Manaqib: Secara bahasa manaqib berarti meneliti,menggali.Secara istilah di artikan sebagai riwayat hidup seseorang yang berisikan tentang budi pekertinya yang terpuji,akhlaknya yang mulia,karomahnya dan selainnya yang patut di jadikan sebagai bahan pelajaran/suri tauladan.
Maksud dari manaqiban diantarnya adalah bertujuan untuk tawasul,tabaruk,mengenal orang-orang shalih dan untuk lebih mencintanya.
Dalil-dalil Manaqib: Manaqib itu banyak terdapat dalam al-Quran,semisal manaqibnya Ashabul Kahfi,Raja Dzulqurnain,Sayyidatuna Maryam,Sayyidina Luqmanul Hakim dan lain sebagainya.
Adapun dalil yang digunakan hujjah untuk memperbolehkan praktek manaqib yaitu sebuah hadits yang terdapat dalam kitab Bughyat al-Mustarsyidin halaman 97:
ﻭَﻗَﺪْ ﻭَﺭَﺩَ ﻓِﻲ ﺍْﻟَﺎﺛَﺮِ ﻋَﻦْ ﺳَﻴِّﺪِ ﺍﻟْﺒَﺸَﺮِ ﺻَﻠﻰَّ ﺍﻟﻠﻪُ ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻪِ ﻭَﺳَﻠَّﻢَ ﺍَﻧَّﻪُ ﻗﺎَﻝَ : ﻣَﻦْ ﻭَﺭَّﺥَ ﻣُﺆْﻣِﻨﺎَ ﻓَﻜَﺄَﻧﻤَّﺎَ ﺍَﺣْﻴﺎَﻩُ ﻭَﻣَﻦْ ﻗَﺮَﺃَ ﺗﺎَﺭِﻳْﺨَﻪُ ﻓَﻜَﺄَﻧﻤَّﺎَ ﺯَﺍﺭَﻩُ ﻓَﻘَﺪْ ﺍﺳْﺘًﻮْﺟَﺐَ ﺭِﺿْﻮَﺍﻥَ ﺍﻟﻠﻪِ ﻓﻲِ ﺣُﺰُﻭْﺭِ ﺍﻟْﺠَﻨَّﺔِ .
Rasulullah Saw.bersabda: “Barangsiapa membuat sejarah orang mukmin (yang sudah meninggal) sama saja ia telah menghidupkannya kembali.Dan barangsiapa membacakan sejarahnya seolah-olah ia sedang mengunjunginya.Maka Allah akan menganugerahinya ridhaNya dengan memasukkannya di surga.”
