Google Indic Keyboard allows you to type messages, update on social networks or compose emails in your own native language on your Android phone. Currently it includes the following keyboards:

On your phone, if you can read your language in its native script above, you may install and use Google Indic Keyboard to input your language; otherwise your phone may not support your language.
Google Indic Keyboard supports different modes of input:
- Transliteration mode - Get output in your native language by spelling out the pronunciation using English letters (For example, “namaste“ -> “नमस्ते“.)
- Native keyboard mode - Type directly in native script.
- Handwriting mode (currently available for Hindi only) - Write directly on your phone screen.
- Hinglish mode - If you choose “Hindi” as an input language, the English keyboard will suggest both English and Hinglish terms.
How can I enable it and set it as the default keyboard?
- On Android 5.x and newer versions:
Open Settings -> Language & Input, under “KEYBOARD & INPUT METHODS” section, go to Current Keyboard -> Choose Keyboards -> Check “Google Indic Keyboard” -> back to “Language & input” -> Current Keyboard -> Select “English & Indic Languages (Google Indic Keyboard)”When typing in an input box, you can also change the default input method by clicking the keyboard icon on the bottom right corner of the screen.
- On Android 4.x:
Open Settings -> Language & Input, under “KEYBOARD & INPUT METHODS” section, check Google Indic Keyboard, then click Default and select “Google Indic Keyboard” in the “Choose input method” dialog.
When typing in an input box, you can also change the default input method by selecting “Choose input method” in the Notification area.

Look for "PramukhIME Indic Keyboard" app in your phone and open it up. Click on "1. Enable PramukhIME Indic Keyboard" button which will open up "Language and Input" settings window. Check "PramukhIME Indic Keyboard" and come back. Click on "2. Select PramukhIME Indic Keyboard", select "PramukhIME Indic Keyboard" and come back.
How can I change language?
When the keyboard opens up, long press "EN" key to choose the language. Short press "EN" key to quickly toggle between your selected Indian language and English.

How to type a certain letter?
You can refer to "Quick Help" by pressing bottom left icon key which acts as a quick reference point for your typing needs. If you need to dig more into the details, you can long press bottom left icon key to go to "PramukhIME Settings > Typing Help > Your Language.

# Incorrect display of text
Complex script rendering in android is not perfect. So if characters are not displaying correctly, it is an issue with Android system, not with the app. (text rendering in 4.2 is much better than 4.1 Jellybean, 4.4 and above perfect rendering when comparing with other android versions.)

That warning message is a part of the Android operating system, and it appears whenever a third party keyboard is enabled.

VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Azhagi Android app has not been updated by me ever since its inception in 2016, except for including the facility to type in 'Saurashtra' language. So, though the app does function mostly normally (as per the feedback of some users) in latest Android phones, it does not meet some requirements of the latest Android OSes. For instance, it may not be straightforward to reach Azhagi app's 'Settings' page if you are using the latest Android phones. Also, during the installation of Azhagi Android app, your phone may wrongly report that Azhagi app is requesting access to your personal data, while it does not. This is because of Azhagi Android app not having been upgraded to meet the requirements of the latest Android OSes. Sorry that I am not having time to do the same. So, whether to use Azhagi Android app or not in your phone is entirely your choice. Some users very much use Azhagi Android app still. So, I need to retain my app in the play store, obviously. Thanks for your understanding in this regard.
