Chernobyl is a city in the north of Ukraine, located on the Kievan Polissya in Ivankiv district of the Kiev region, at the confluence of the Pripyat river and the Kiev reservoir and entering the Pripyat River, Uzh. The inhabitants of Chernobyl were evacuated as a result of the Chernobyl accident in 1986.
At different times different versions were proposed to explain the causes of the Chernobyl accident. Experts suggested different hypotheses about what led to a jump in power. Among the reasons were called: the so-called "breakdown" of circulating pumps (violation of their work as a result of cavitation), caused by exceeding the permissible flow of water, the rupture of pipelines of a large intersection, and others. Various scenarios were also considered about how specifically the processes that led to the destruction of the reactor after the jump of power, and what happened to the fuel after that. Some of the versions have been refuted by studies conducted in subsequent years, while others remain relevant. Although there is a consensus among the experts on the main causes of the accident, some details remain unclear to this day. There were also versions whose explosion causes a local earthquake, sabotage, and the like.
