Stephen Tong is a Christian pastor who was born in Xiamen, Fujian province (born 5 September 1940). He later became a citizen of Indonesia, and currently lives in Jakarta and since the age of 17 years have been called to be an evangelist. He is one of the leading figures of Reformed theology, held seminars around the world on a regular basis every year. He also set up Stephen Tong Evangelistic Ministries International (STEMI) and a member of International Consultants of the Lausanne Committee of World Evangelization. In addition to a pastor. Pdt. Stephen Tong for 25 years teaching theology and philosophy in Southeast Asia Bible Seminary in Malang and currently teaches at the School of Theology Evangelical Reformed Indonesia (STTRII) in Jakarta, which he founded. He has written more than 75 books. In 1990 he founded the Indonesian Reformed Evangelical Church (GRII), including a seminary, Reformed Institute, Jakarta Oratorio Society, the department of literature and translation center of theology, as well as the central evangelistic activities, seminars, and counseling. In 1996 Pastor. Tong founded the Reformed Institute for Christianity and 21st Century in Washington D.C., USA.
He is known as a harsh critic of the Charismatic movement, the New Age Movement, Postmodernism, Contemporary art, psychology, Eastern culture, Eastern culture, philosophy, and theology of prosperity. As a pastor, he has extensive knowledge in the fields of art, music, philosophy, history, and architecture. He has written many songs of the church, wrote many spiritual books and designing several church buildings.
Seminars were held in various cities in Indonesia such as Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya; and in cities abroad such as in Cambridge (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Hong Kong (China Graduate School of Theology), Taiwan (China Evangelical Seminary), Singapore (Trinity Theological College), Westminster Theological Seminary, Regent College, Columbia University, University of California at Berkeley, Stanford University, University of Maryland, and Cornell University. He delivered a sermon in Indonesian, Mandarin, Fujian dialect, and English.
