One of its main advantages is the ability to determine the user's position without GPS access. In this case the location is determined via the nearby WiFi APs (routers, etc.) and cell towers. There are three ways to do this: using GPS, using the nearby APs and towers or letting the device decide the best method depending on preset factors. Time or location based refresh frequency can be set. If the WiFi based option is chosen, the position is updated every 20-25 seconds. The lowest GPS frequency setting should be around one minute. This is a limitation of the hardware, sadly nothing can be done about it. Both methods have advantages and drawbacks as well. GPS is accurate but it usually does not work indoors. WiFi on the other hand refreshes around 20-30 secs, does not drain the battery as much, but it's much less accurate. With no internet connection only longitude and latitude data will be shown, along with the update rate. With internet access the app will show the exact address.
