Have you ever been in situations where a house starts burning, or crime is happening or corruption is ongoing, or your electric lines are faulty, or a child/woman is being raped or abused etc, and you want to call the authorized personnel such as the National Fire Force Authority, Sierra Leone Police, Anti Corruption Commission, EDSA and others to make reports, but neither you, nor your neighbors have their numbers?
My name is Eugene Jones, I am a young Sierra Leonean, a developer, an innovator, an Inventor and an Entrepreneur. I am also the head of a group that has great aspirations of turning impossible situations/ideas into reality.
Our group often spends ample time discussing about issues affecting people and communities, and how they could possibly be solved. Looking at a particular problem that often causes loss of life and untimely responses, we coined an App called "Say Yes to Life (SYL)." SYL also stems from creative inspiration derived from love.
This App was born out of the process of creating an innovation that would enable Citizens of Sierra Leone to have easy access to already existing Toll Free numbers of institutions such as:
* Sierra Leone Police (to report crimes, child abuse, sexual abuse, child sexual abuse and issues of national emergencies)
* Ministry of Health and Sanitation (to report Health Emergencies)
*Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (to report corrupt practices in the Education Sector)
* Anti Corruption Commission (to report corruption)
* National Fire Force (to report fire disasters)
* EDSA (to report issues affecting electricity supplies)
The App is meant to be available online so that a Citizen could download and install without going through the constrains of asking others who might also not have these numbers in times of emergency, or when the need arises to make reports.
The App is designed to be very simple and lightweight, and most importantly, it performs its basic functionality without requiring internet access. It has a navigation drawer that has the following menus:
Home, About the Institutions, share, Terms of Services, Privacy Policy, About Us and Contacts.
It also has three navigation "tabs" i.e. Home Tab (which has flipping pictures that educates you about how and when to use the App), Emergency Tab (which has buttons that Users could tap "once" to call institutions for Emergency Situations), and a Reporting Tab (which has buttons that Users could tap "once" to call institutions for Reporting Situations).
It also does not in any way require or capture your personal information, nor are your calls accessible to the developers or monitored by any third party (apart from you and the Institution you are calling). To aid the clarity of the App with regards violations of privacy or its usage, the App comes fully embedded with "Terms of Service" and "Privacy Policy" which you must accept before using the App.
