Dispensing in the sense of pharmacy means to prepare and supply medicine in suitable dosage forms based on the written prescription by registered medical practitioner or by physician in suitable container with proper label and supply to the patients.
There were number of standard books available for dispensing pharmacy in the market which gives comprehensive information and knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects related to the dispensed products. After a 4 years teaching experience in the field of pharmacy we felt that books were several but there is no any application designed for this, so that idea comes in our mind to create a wonderful app for it which is helpful for pharmacy students. Now days in every developing country maximum number of students goes in the college will have Smart phone with them so they can easily download the app and refer it for conducting practical in lab scale in the institute and also understand the fundamental practical aspects.
Rx Formulation-Aspects- I app is specially designed to meet the requirements of degree as well as diploma pharmacy students to perform the experiments smoothly and effectively in a practical lab and to learn the theoretical and fundamental principles of prescribed products through practical. The app was created by referring various standard books and laboratory manual as well as official pharmacopoeia viz; Indian Pharmacopoeia, British Pharmacopoeia, United States Pharmacopoeia and British Pharmaceutical Codex.
FEATURES:
The app has been divided in different class of dosage forms namely Aromatic waters, Mixtures, Elixirs, Emulsions, Ear drops, Lotions, Liniments, Mouthwashes, Gargles, Throat paints, Enemas, Douches, Inhalation, Powders, Insufflations and Tablet triturates.
It mainly comprises more than 50 products in different classes with their complete information.
The information is divided in different parts which includes:
a) Recipe: It means Latin formula in which name of the ingredients was given in Latin language which was written order from physician to the pharmacist.
b) Conversion: It includes conversion of imperial system to metric system.
c) Dispensing Formula: This includes translation of latin terms to English along with amount prescribed and amount dispensed.
d) Comments: This part gives reason of adding each of ingredients in formulation and use of it.
e) Method of Dispensing: Step wise simple procedure was given in this to prepare the product. It also gives information of suitable container for particular product which was dispensed.
f) Direction: It gives instruction to the patients like - Route of administration of the drug, Dose of medicament or number of dosage units to be taken, Frequency and Timing of administration or application (how many times in a day or at what time it should be taken), Manner in which it is to be administered or applied.
g) Storage condition: It specifies proper storage condition for each and every product which is required for stability.
h) Auxiliary Label: It contains certain important cautions and warnings.
i) Product Label: At last this part contains sample label for every product and we sure that this type of prepared label is not given in any books.
App will be useful for both pharmacy students as well as for lectures those who studied dispensing pharmacy subject and conduct the experiments in pharmaceutics laboratory. Students acquire nice information by using this app which was useful them to prepare and supply products in lab scale.
