Adolf Hitler
(Braunau am Inn, April 20, 1889-Berlin, Germany, April 30, 1945) was a political, military and writer German imperial chancellor since 1933 and Führer -líder- of Germany from 1934 until his death. It brought to power the National Socialist German Workers Party or Nazi, d Party and led a totalitarian regime during the period known as the Third Reich or Nazi Germany. He was also who led Germany during World War II, which began with the main purpose to fulfill its expansionist plans in Europe.
Hitler joined the German Workers Party precursor of the Nazi Party in 1919 and became its leader in 1921. In 1923, after the pronouncement in the Bürgerbräukeller brewery in Munich, Hitler attempted an insurrection, known as the Beer Hall Putsch, after whose failure was sentenced to five years in prison. During his stay in prison he wrote the first part of his book Mein Kampf (German: Mein Kampf), in which he outlined his ideology with autobiographical elements. Released eight months later, in 1924, Hitler gained increasing popular support through the exaltation of Pangermanism, anti-Semitism and anti-communism, using his oratorical talent supported by the efficient Nazi propaganda and mass rallies full of symbolism.
He was appointed imperial chancellor (Reichskanzler) in January 1933 and a year later, the death of President Paul von Hindenburg, leader and imperial Chancellor (Führer und Reichskanzler) was proclaimed, thus assuming the supreme command of the German state. He transformed the Weimar Republic into the Third Reich and ruled by a single party based on totalitarianism and autocracy of Nazi ideology.
Hitler's goal was to establish a new based on the absolute hegemony of Nazi Germany in Europe Order. Its foreign and domestic policy was aimed at seizing Lebensraum ( "living space") for the Germanic peoples. He promoted the rearmament of Germany and after the invasion of Poland by the Wehrmacht on 1 September 1939, World War II began. With these acts, Hitler violated the Treaty of Versailles of 1919, which established the conditions for peace after World War II.
Under the leadership of Hitler, German forces and their allies occupied in 1941 most of Europe and North Africa. These territorial conquests gradually decreased after the battle of Stalingrad, until 1945, when the allied armies defeated the German army. Racial, Hitler killed seventeen million people, including six million Jews and between half and half million Gypsies, in what was later called "Holocaust."
In the last days of the war, during the Battle of Berlin in 1945, Hitler married his former mistress, Eva Braun. On 30 April 1945 the two committed suicide in the bunker of the Chancellery, to avoid being captured by the Red Army. Later, their bodies were burned.
