This app is about the Sattriya classical dance from from India. This dance form is more than 500 years old and evolved from the monasteries called Sattras, in the north eastern state of Assam. It was founded in the 15th century by the Assamese saint, Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and his disciples. The original performers of this dance were the male monks who professed the Vaishnavite sect of the Hindu religion. These days the dance form is also performed by the female exponents on stage. The main theme of this dance form is “Bhakti” or worship. The dance is part of a wider Sattriya culture which includes drama (called “Ankiya Naat”), mask making, hymns (called “Naam Kirtan”), songs (called “Borgeet”), literature, music & musical instruments - all professing the same theme of “Ek Sarana Naam Dharma” or “the religion of taking refuge in one God”.
This is the First Release for Sattriya Darshan, a major Indian classical dance. It is a dance-drama performance art with origins in the Krishna-centered Vaishnavism monasteries of Assam, and attributed to the 15th century Bhakti movement scholar and saint Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev.
