It is one of the main cities of historical ancestry in the province. It was intensively Romanized and became one of the most important towns of Andalusia. From this period highlights the impressive Necropolis, currently visitable. If anything defines Carmona it is the amount and quality of its historical heritage. Foremost among its buildings, the Palace of King Don Pedro (parador city), the Priory Church of Santa Maria, the palatial houses, convents of Conception and the Trinity, the Alcázar Puerta de Sevilla and the remains of Via Augusta.
