Pair4life is an online mobile app based platform to facilitate organ sharing amongst blood group incompatible donor-recipient pairs .
CAN YOU IMAGINE…the plight of a patient suffering from kidney failure having a willing family member as donor and still not able to undergo the transplant? Yes it’s true, lot of kidney failure patients because of blood group mismatch eventually end-up management through dialysis and in many cases patient die without the transplant.
IS THERE A SOLUTION…thankfully yes through SWAP TRANSPLANT. Swap transplant is a novel way to manage incompatible donor-recipient cases. In this paired kidney exchange, also known as a “kidney swap”, a living kidney donor being incompatible with the recipient, exchanges kidneys with another donor/recipient pair and thus creating two live donor transplants. Sometime, a kidney donor chain creates opportunities for endless recipient-donor pairings.
IS SWAP TRANSPLANT SO EASY…NO. It is always difficult to find another donor who is willing and compatible to patient’s pathological profile. A successful swap transplant requires a close co-ordination between patient-donor, the treating doctor and most importantly, the patient-donor pool. India lacks a credible and accessible database of patient-donor combination which limits the option of incompatible patient-donors.
Pair4life is launched to solve the problem of accessibility with a cutting-edge technological platform which is easy to enrol, manage and benefit out of it, for both the patient and the doctor community. Pair4life will create a pool of patients who require kidney transplant along with their donor family member who cannot donate their kidney because of incompatible blood group. Pair4life will have details of patient and donor including pathological, physiological and geographical profile to enable credible, evidence-based searches and outcomes.
Pair4life mobile based platform will crawl into the patient-donor database and will generate pairs ideal for swap based on the profile details and search criteria. It will help the patient and doctor connect to the other patient-donor pairs and take the next step towards mutually consented swap transplant.
Statistics suggests that about 150,000 people in India are waiting for renal transplantation. Only 1 out of 30 people who need a kidney receives one. Ninety percent of people on the waiting list die without getting an organ. Swap transplant among many of the other factors has huge potential to address this gap and help more number of kidney failure patients lead a promising life.
