5 Million French People Can't be Wrong!
In preparation for her royal wedding in April 2011, Duchess-to-be Kate Middleton wanted to slim down a bit. She discovered a fairly new diet that was swirling around in France. Doctor Pierre Dukan claims that his Dukan Diet is the "real reason the French stay thin" (or so it says on the cover of his book). As long as you follow four steps, Dukan says, you can lose weight and keep it off for good.
The Dukan diet is based on the theory that a lot of protein can help people lose weight because:
It is low in calories
It makes a person feel full
Digesting protein uses more energy and therefore more
Kate Middleton had success with the Dukan Diet and looked fantastic for her big day. But she had real motivation - not everyone has their wedding broadcast on television for the world to see. I'm not convinced that this is a diet that would work for everyone though. It's certainly not suitable for vegetarians and also leaves out major food groups like fruit and nuts and seeds, which provide important nutrients that just protein and vegetables don't have.
