The name of a remote region surrounded by mountains is Jurachharhi. The meaning of "jur" in Chakma is cold, "rod" means rhyme. There is a rhyme called Jurachari, which is located on the south side of the upazila headquarters. The water in the cold water is very cold. It is named after Jurachharhi Chorra. It has been named as Jurachharhi. Jurachari was a union under Barkal Police Station. Later, Jurachharhi union was divided into four unions and in 1980 AD, on 18 November, Jurachari was declared as a deputy police station. Subsequently Upazila was upgraded on 25 July 1983 as part of the administrative reorganization.
