Shaktimaan is India's first superhero television series that was aired on DD National from 13 September 1997 to 27 March 2005. Produced by Mukesh Khanna and directed by Dinkar Jani, the series was so popular among the India's four- to 14-year-old demographic that its original Saturday morning time slot had to be changed to Sunday, a non-school day, after education officials blamed the program for a sharp increase in truancy. The immense popularity of the series also led to its release on was several other Indian TV channels in various languages: Pogo in English, Tarang in Odia, Chutti TV in Tamil, Kochu TV in Malayalam, and STAR Utsavand Dangal in Hindi.
