تهران بزرگ‌ترین شهر و پایتخت ایران و مرکز استان تهران و شهرستان تهران است. جمعیّت آن در حدود 8 میلیون نفر است و بیست و پنجمین شهر پرجمعیّت جهان به شمار می‌ آید. مساحت این شهر ۷۳۰ کیلومتر مربّع است. این شهر یکی از بزرگ‌ترین شهرهای غرب آسیا و بیست و هفتمین شهر بزرگ دنیا است. شهر تهران، در شمال کشور ایران و جنوب دامنهٔ رشته‌ کوه البرز واقع شده‌است.
