Taekwondo is the Korean art of self-defense. This means "Way of the Hand and Foot". It is an application called kicks, punches, strikes, holds and throws.
The titular character of the Karate Kid (1984) teaches martial arts to fight against bullies and to defend his family. Eventually, he learns that fighting is not the answer and that restraint is the key to life. This is one of the central goals of the Korean style of martial arts known as Taekwondo. His practitioners are disciplined and adhere strictly to the philosophical principles of Taekwondo, derived from Buddhist, Confucian and Taoist beliefs. In order to "do Taekwondo," you must study his philosophical principles, get fit, learn his fighting techniques.
